How to remove wiper motor?

I finally tracked down the problem with my wipers. I have power to the motor for all 3 speed settings (low, high, intermittent) but no movement, so it looks like the motor is dead. Is this just a matter of removing the bolts holding the motor in place, or do I need to replace the cowl piece at the base of the windshield to do this. I'm hoping the motor is an easy swap because there are thunderstorms predicted for today!
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Jeff

Re: How to remove wiper motor?

Not sure about your '92, but on my '91 it involved removing the wiper arms and cowl and then taking a few onces of skin off trying to squeeze my hands down in and around the motor to remove the nuts and washers. It's one of those "Not too difficult, but irritating as hell" jobs.

Re: How to remove wiper motor?

I went to turn on my wipers today and nothing happened. So,I get home, open the hood, turn the key on ,and turn the wipers on. They dont work but i do hear a faint noise from the motor.I assume this means the switch is good but the motor is shot.Is this correct? How much is a new motor?

Re: How to remove wiper motor?

I paid about $60 for a remanufactured motor last fall.

Re: How to remove wiper motor?

cdnsarguy-
Thanks. I didn't check the ground connections, just used a test light to check for power. I'll hook to power and check the ground now.
If it's not a wiring problem, is the motor difficult to remove? I see 3 bolts that hold it in place, but how difficult is it to undo the linkage? Is it only screws that hold the vented area at the base of the windshield in place? Does that even have to be removed? I swear, between power windows and wipers... I guess if you hang onto a vehicle for 13+ years it will start to show its age!!
Thanks-
Jeff

Re: How to remove wiper motor?

Hey, I did my motor a few months back and it was not to bad a job. I did have to take off the entire piece just aft of the hood as well as a few other pieces. It probally took me a couple of hours to finish everything. Man what a difference being able to see makes!!
