I Couldn't Take It Anymore

Yeah.... Its true. I just had to start my motor up. Its been sitting for way too long. Travis knows the deal with my motor. Its drinking 2 gallons of coolant and water in 16 miles and not dripping on the ground anywhere. Its the big "C" word and probably a bad head gasket . I was visited by the "C" word about 200,000 miles ago and when the motor was out the shop "wouldn't replace the passenger side head gasket even though I asked them to. I guess they thought they might make some more money off me when it let go. Boy were they wrong. I found this site and never looked back. Till this problem came up. I may try taking the head off but I know this is the hard side to get off. I'm still working on my DAS turbo upgrade motor with the new aftermarket heads that I ported and blended to both intake and exhaust manifolds. I may even be done with it in June..... Ok my crying is off for now. I feel much better. I had my fix of diesel sound and smells....

Re: I Couldn't Take It Anymore

May not be cavitation just a crack in the exhaust valve area of a head.

Re: I Couldn't Take It Anymore

Unless you've done the pressure test for cavitation I wouldn't be so certain, from what i've heard cavitation usually locks up an engine.

Re: I Couldn't Take It Anymore

I just did the heads on mine (engine in the truck). I discovered that if you remove the outer cover on the A/C box, the passenger side is a piece of cake. I was able to put it back in without having to have the lifter rods and head bolts already in place. Only thing is to be careful not to bump the A/C evaporator. Takes about 10 mins to get that cover off and saves hours of frustration and cursing. Not to mention a $50 head gasket if you slip while doing it the hard way.

Re: I Couldn't Take It Anymore

I have had some trouble several times with hydroloc in the past. What caused me to park it again was a hydroloc so bad that I couldn't bar thru the motor by hand. I even turned the motor both directions of rotation trying to push out the coolant. It may well be the original passenger side head gasket. It has about 270,000 or 370,000 miles on it. May even be the big "C" AND head gasket. I will take it apart just to find out what really is causing the coolant flooding problem. Pictures will follow... I promise...
