Ignition Switch ACC position?

My 1988 F-350 ignition switch has a position CCW of LOCK. Is this an accessory key position? If so, what accessories should be energized at this position?

Thanks --Jim Jim Jim

PS special thx to RWF350 for sending fuel system electrical details.

CD, Thanks for the reply. My radio works in the ON position, but not at ACC. Anything else I can check?

Regards,

I don't even have an ACC position. I have lock, on, and start. That's it. Am I missing something?

Maybe I don't either - perhaps my ignition switch is just BROKEN, allowing it to turn CCW past LOCK. I have never seen an owner's manual for my truck, so that's why I'm asking about this here.

So is there an ACC position CCW from LOCK?

Regards,

I don't believe that there is but it just seems odd. I can get mine between on and start and it's like ACC.

If it won't turn back to the ACC spot, the tumbler is worn. I took mine out, lightly greased it, and put back. Works much better, still needs a new tumbler though.
In the acc position: radio and windows work, I think the wipers and gauges work as well.

The proper ignition switch positions are ACC-Lock-Off-Run-Start. So yes, the ACC is CCW from the Lock position (where you can take your key out). The ACC will power the radio and power windows if you have them. The ignition switch itself is actually the same as used on Ford's passenger cars of that era, only the linkage between the lock tumbler (where you put the key in) and the actual ignition switch (way down on the steering column) leaves a lot to be desired... which is the source of many problems with missing IGN switch positions.

Is there supposed ti be a little button on the bttom of the steering column that you have to push to rotate it to ACC? There is a little square hole on the bottom side of the column under the IGN. Is this what is supposed to be there?

There is a hole that is utilized to remove the tumbler.

no button needed for acc, the hole is just so you can stick a pick in there when you wanna replace the lock cylinder.

So I should just be able to rotate CCW to ACC? No buttons need to be pressed or anything? Sounds like my IGN. tumbler needs a replacin...

Your ign tumbler only rotates. The end of it has two "ears" that fit into a slot to move electrical contacts. If your not having a problem turning the key then the tumbler assembly is good.

Mine has a spring loaded ball in the tumbler that stops it at a detent for "off". It had worn a groove in the "outer" tumbler case that the ball could not over come to go into acc position. I took the tumbler out and I put a light dab of silicone grease in the tumbler where the ball is at with a q-tip. Works pretty good right now.
