Injection pump dead?

Parked truck last night. Went to start this morning......nothing. Replaced glow plugs....nothing.. Took OFF injection line to No1. Just a drip while cranked. Even though batteries were about dead from cranking no smoke nothing. Engine has severe blowby and feel that she is at a close. 1 qt oil per 20-30 miles. Oh it is a 94 idi factory turbo. Your opinions?

Re: Injection pump dead?

My opinion is sell me the truck and be done with it .I would check that you have a good connection to your fuel shut off solenoid ,if you have no power to the pump you have no starts, make sure the filter is full, if not check fuel pump and lines for drainage back to the tank or maybe someone poked a hole in your tank and stole your gold.

Re: Injection pump dead?

there are two plugs on the right side of the injection pump as you are standing infront of the truck, I believe it is the farthest one back. if you have a test light check to see if it has power if no light. run a jumper wire from the battery and see if she fires, you should be able to hear it click when you energize it.

Re: Injection pump dead?

Sounds like it MAY be a $20 lift pump, follow the fuel line for the location of the FSS.

Re: Injection pump dead?

I unhoked line that goes from the lift pump to filter and she spews fuel about 3 feet. Now I checked the rear connector with a test light. Nothing. But I think it may be shorted. I put test light on positive and touched the connector on the pump and it lit up. I have nothing through the wire. Is this possibly the cold start one? The connector closest on the rif=ght side to the radiator has power. Over the past week she has had a thick greyish smoke all the time. Which makes me think it is the pump. Anyway there is so much blowby that there is a puddle of oil in the rubber coupler between the turbo and the air filter housing.

Now you starting to make headway, no it is not an I/P, it is simple.
Others will chime in, I can't help because I have C.R.S., but it is an oil valve that require cleaning and/or replacement, kindly like a PVC.

Re: Injection pump dead?

C.R.S. I love it. I believe you are refering to the C.D.R. valve, and I also believe you to be right, it needs replacing and lives bolted to the back of the intake manifold.

Re: Injection pump dead?

Yes you have one , I just cant say where it is on the turbo motor but it is there somewhere, it is very similar looking to the bottom of a soup can and has two hoses conected to it,.and one is most likley going to a valve cover

Re: Injection pump dead?

mine bolts onto the valve cover and goes ovewr to air filter housing right before turbo. I cleaned it and it right now it is not even hooked up. I have so much blow by that it pumps oil out around the dipstick. When it starts up the blowby just chuggs like a train out of the valve

Re: Injection pump dead?

I don't think a bad cdr will cause it to not start. But i think it might be on the valve cover, tuna can. Did you try starting the truck with power to back terminal on the ip, i can't remember which it is, but both should have power to them with the key on. Do you have fuel on the out side of the filter? Make sure you have a full charge on the batteries and that starter is spinning faster then you can count. How long is the wts light on?
