Intake manifold/Valley pan gasket

Well, Ive had a small oil leak for several months and finally the floodgates are beginning to open. The oil is running down the rear of the engine/front of the transmission and over the starter.
My dad and I think we pinpointed it to the valley pan, but its difficult to tell. Is there any other location in the rear of the engine that the oil could be leaking from? I want to be semi-sure that it is indeed the VP/VP gasket before I go into the headache of changing it.
Also, I don't own a shop manual and am looking to invest in one, is there any particular book that is recommended?

Thanks alot,
Bryan

Shop manual = Ford OEM manuals....brain fart right now on the company that prints them (order via the web).

Valley cover just starts leaking? I doubt it.....

Helm inc. for the shop manuals:

Helm Incorporated: Choose Product Category

N/A look at the CDR and see if the gasket in the V/P isn't out of wack.

TURBO look at the pedestal as it drains into the valley and that gasket might be out of wack.

Are you sure it's oil and not fuel? If the return system or IP is leaking, it will drain out the hole at the back of the V/P gasket and drain where you're trans/engine meet.

Chuckster,
Its definitely oil and not fuel. It had a slow leak all summer and only left little spots where i parked. As of this morning it started leaving puddles of oil.
Im going to go see if i can notice anything wrong with the gasket where the turbo drains into the valley.

When the turbo was installed the valley pan turbo oil drain hole (IDI/NT CDR port) has a baffle which several holes are to be punched to facilitate a large amount of turbo oil drainage. That could be part of the problem if NO holes were punched. Also do not discount cracks in the corners of the VP, tough to see under the intake manifold.

I just got a new valley pan and gasket set. Im going to have to wait until my winter break to replace it. I have a couple more questions.
A) When I replace the valley pan, do I have to remove the IP or is is possible to just remove the lines and leave the pump on as is?
B) It seems like the oil is leaking from where the silicone is used to seal the valley pan at the back of the intake manifold. Is it possible that the silicone seal failed and now oil is just blowing out?
I wont know the exact answer till i tear it down but im just looking for possible problems.
Thanks in advance,
Bryan
