it should be,

some of the early 6.9s if i remember correctly don't have the soup bowl for the air cleaner but they did have a goofy looking base that worked the same as the soup bowl

as for the intake manifold, they are all the same

Thanks

Appreciate it. I just want to ensure That I can use my 6.9 intake on the 7.3 if I go that way. I wonder how much difference there is between the 7.3 cam and the 6.9 cam??

I would have to think you'd need to drill and tap a pair of holes to mount your GP controller. I'm not too sure, but check it out.

the bridge where the newer controller would mounts is taller and uneven on a 6.9. I made an offset wedge to mount the left ear of newer controller .

My truck is an 86 6.9. It is missing on one cylinder. I have not checked it out yet but came across a 1990 7.3 idi non-turbo at a junk yard for 100.00. This yard has low prices and things go quick. Someone had already grabbed the injector pump and all the injectors. I took the long block assy. I figured 100.00 was a fair price. I have pulled one head off the 7.3 and all looks good there so far. I think I may go thru it and drop it in. I know I'll need a set of glow plugs but I think I can make the rest work. I bought a pyrometer the other day. Word is I can crank the fuel up on the 6.9 pump to work with the 7.3.

if you have the extra money go through the cylinder heads. the 7.3's are notorious for wearing valve guides quickly.

If you have an engine stand, mount the engine on it. With 1 head off, block all the water passages you can on the side with the head on, tip the engine on it's side and fill it as full of water as you can, with 2 cyl's at BDC, let it stand for a couple hrs. and check for any moisture at all in those cyl's., rotate for the other two and repeat. I did drivers side 1st on mine, thats how I found my cavitation in #6 . Do the same for the pass side. Save the old head gasket for replacement of head on drivers side. This may save you a lot of trouble if the engine has cavitation. Not a sure way to find cavatation, but it's a chance.

Leave the rad hose on standing up when you fill the drivers side.
