Have you considered the hoses may be rotton inside and restricting the flow too or from the calipers/drums.

I do too, for the most part - Pete's suggestion totally explains why his brakes overheated, internally collapsed hoses are known for hanging up the calipers, and therefore are the second thing I replace on any of my vehicles ASAP after getting them (first being the steel lines, in MI those are usually way worse than the hoses).

Now, the hard question is, why did his brakes dump pressure?
