Re: just to stir up the additive discussion pot

i have one experience with the stuff:

oil change before last one (a little over a year ago), on a trusted friends advice i used a couple quarts to see if it would ebb my leaks. it didn't.
i never saw any evidence of foaming, though. or any other ill effects for that matter.

don't see a reason to use it now that i found the basement & learned about Blackstone.

While we're into "oil", this one is also pretty interesting : http://www.eaa49.av.org/techart/str_oil.htm

Re: just to stir up the additive discussion pot

hiway,
that was an interesting link. Never knew how a multivis oil worked just knew that it acted like thin oil when cold and thick oil while hot. I wonder why then engine makers/auto makers don't push the straight weights as hard as they do the multivis oils... couldn't be because they want to sell more product could it

Re: just to stir up the additive discussion pot

- I can confirm the information given via HiWayMan. My internal source at Exxon tells me to use oil with as little span as possible. Straight weight is difficult to obtain in Norway, so she advises strongly to use 15w-40 rather than 10w-40 or 5w-40, if possible.

Re: just to stir up the additive discussion pot

Hi Guys,

I've used this oil in my tranny, power steering, guns, knives, radiator, there are numerous industrial & military applications for this product. I generally buy a case of the 16oz. size bottles and put in a lot of things.

Re: just to stir up the additive discussion pot

I think (oil guy Bob) is a little slippery. I have for 7 years and will continue to use Lucas oil products. They do raise oil pressure and lower operating temperature and have saved many derby motors while running a half hour to fourtyfive minutes with no radiator.
Now how many of you boys have added lucas to your noisy transmissions and rearends and was pleasantly suprised with the quiets. and I bet no
foaming at service time either. I wonder how many rpm's old Bob spun his gizmo to ?

Jerry, it looks impressive.. Maybe we can get the "Oil Guy" to test it for us...

Tried it with fresh fluid. Made it shift harder and didn't notice much noise reduction with the ZF. Not sure if too great of a percentage of additive/MercIII. Switched to redline synthetic and shifted smoother and mucho quieter.

Just my experience.

Re: just to stir up the additive discussion pot

I was just considering whether to switch to SAE30 shell Rotella-T for my 6.9 in the summer. In Gainesville, we're likely not to see anything below 30* until November or December from here on out

Re: just to stir up the additive discussion pot

Yeah 30 weight for above 30deg and 10w40 for below 30/ But I use 10w40 year round with reg oil change every 5k miles/ if not sooner/

Interesting fact the Cummins engine recommended oil change is every 1500 miles/ Yep saw it myself in the owner's manual..

Planned upgrades are a new and better turbo and larger exhaust pipes than the 21/2s that are already under the rig/ would like a 6 spd tranny but dont know if that is a feasable or smart investment yet.

1500 miles is the same for our Navistar in severe duty service like a school bus, towing etc........
