yes, there is a four-pin connector under the dash.

white ground red hot at all times dark-blue to brake feed and light-green to the brake switch

for some reason someone ignored it in my truck and tied an activator II directly into the harness :/

I have a tekonsha voyager and a prodigy, both came from yard sales. I need to figure out which I am going to put in my truck, and which I am going to put in my car... for pulling an aluminum trailer with a 200lb tongue weight (the truck will tow heavier stuff, not the car though)

Prodigy is the BOMB!! Had to turn it down when we bought our new trailer. Took me the better part of the drive home to get it where I was happy with it.

k i just called the guy and he said it takes a little longer to start but starts, so he' said it news glow plugs probably, and said something about if let sit for 2 months something with the injector o-rings so they need to be replaced sometime too, he said 4wd works good but said that when going into reverse it will pop out sometimes when let off clutch but just have to do it again and engages, what does that mean? has been doing it for 40,000miles, its a 5 speed manual, has 183,000 miles on it, did not know gear ratio but gets 14.5 towing enclosed trailer with camper in bed, 16 empty on the interstate going 70... interior has no rips, only reason selling is he has 3 kids now and got a different truck to haul them and doesn't use this one... $3,200 he is at, what ya think? buy or pass?

Trans problem seems a little sketchy. Long start could also be air intrusion and not a glow problem, if you get a good long glow on a cold start the glow system is probably working. Make sure you check cold start and hot start.

Would the tranny be expensive to fix you think? So after driving it around, kill it then try and restart it? what if bad warm start? is air intrusion worse?

Hard to start warm indicates IP problems, hard to start cold indicates air intrusion or glow problems. (there can be other problems of course, but in general.) air intrusion can be an easy matter of installing an injector installation kit, or it can be endless frustration finding the leak

The tranny popping out of gear in reverse isn't too uncommon, mine does it every once in a while. I can tell when it's not fully engaged, and if I just let the clutch out a little bit it'll pop right in. I'd say it's most likely a bit of air in the master/slave, but it could also be a fluid leak.

Not having to deal with a CEL, DEF, or regen, and actually being able to SEE the engine in order to work on it is always nice. No, she won't haul a trailer uphill as fast as the Cummins, but you'll never find yourself stranded because of some electronic doodad going bad, either.

I know, thats why i think this thing would be great to have for when I'm towing super heavy and stuff... I would throw some stacks on it like the hillbilly i am but yea... Would be easy to work on and cheap to it looks like so yea! Im sure i will try to tow with it a little like our skid loader or some cattle for fun but not like a gooseneck full of hay bails haha

You can tow anything you want behind an IDI on the flats... in the hills there are limits

The guy I bought my truck from said he pulled a load over 22k with it (with a fifth wheel that I didn't get with it) ... he lived in Corning, so it's pretty flat around there... for northern california

I wouldn't do the same for safety's sake but clearly the 7.3 has plenty of pull in it
