Lots of noise......don't know where

Hi,
I have a '92' F250 with 180,000 miles, it's had a Banks Sidewinder since 50,000. It started making a terrible noise today. My mechanic couldn't even find it with his stethiscope. It is in or on the engine somewhere and there is vibration in the pedal. It doesn't happen during deceleration or around 2000 rpm. There is no smoke and the gauges are fine. I took the intake off the turbo and there is a bit of play (up and down) on the turbine. Could this be the culprit. The fuel injection is original.

Thanks,
Walter

I don't know much about turbos, but I would think any play in the bearings that is noticable by feel or eye would be suspect to me. Tim

Re: Lots of noise......don't know where

Thanks guys. The tech at Banks told me .015" of play is normal to leave space for oil. I think its beyond that. When I told him there was friction when I pushed the turbine to the side He thought that was bad. I am going to run the truck without the belt to rule out any of the pumps or fanclutch.
