Major Engine Fuel leak

Need some tech help. I noticed a drip of fuel under my truck last week. nothing major, then pulled up to a stop light the next morning (5:45 AM) and the smoke rolling off the truck in the head lights looked like if was on fire. Poped the hood and the whole front of the engine was covered with fuel. After it sat there was a huge puddle of fuel under the truck. I parked it and drove the wifes truck till yesterday. I degreased and power washed all of the fuel off and let it idle. Found a couple of drips under the lift pump so I replaced it. no more drips so I took it for a drive. Got back and the fuel is all over the truck again. It apears to be coming from the drivers side, under the P/S pump where the high psi pump (?) is bolted to the block. Just seeping at the gasket surface and running down the block sitting in the drive. The truck runs fine starts great and no power issues but this is not a safe condition in my oppinion and its making a MESS in the driveway. Can I rebuild this pump? or do I need to replace it?

Re: Major Engine Fuel leak

I am confused as to where you say the fuel is coming from.......the drivers side below the PS pump. There should be no fuel related items there. You could have a bad injector line worn through or cracked at an injector line nut. Do you have the injector line clamps installed should be 2 each side reaining 3 lines each.

Can you get a picture........

Re: Major Engine Fuel leak

Have you looked at the engine compartment with the engine running? I had an injector return line cap break and it lost a lot of fuel in a short time.

Re: Major Engine Fuel leak

Down behind the power steering pump is only the front oil cooler head. Are you sure the oil leaking is diesel and not motor oil? We don't have any fuel related parts in the area you discribe as where the leak is coming from. Have you worked on the oil cooler like recently replaced the o-rings?

Re: Major Engine Fuel leak

I am in the middle of fixing a leak on mine as well but its really obvious. I have a stream of diesel shooting out of the top of my #1 injector.

Re: Major Engine Fuel leak

Yeah, the only fuel leak I ever had was from a broken return line Tee. Boy did that make a mess in a hurry! Wow!

I'd suspect that guy has a broken return line on the driver's side of the engine.
