i'm with Plywood, sounds like a vacuum related problem. If its not the pump itself, could disconnect/pinch vacuum lines to see if the noise stops.
Don't know if broken CDR could do that. Open the hood and throttle it there.

I dont have CDR in use anymore, it has been taken off couple of weeks ago.
What makes life a bit more difficult is that the noise cannot be heard from the engine compartment by using the throttle by hand.
And it's not the fan shroud either.

I'm starting to feel myself really stupid here while searching the reason for this sound...

Was the noise present before you ditched the CDR?
Anyway, there are vacuum operated things in the dash, and they they can make noise. To completely rule out that possibility, you could disconnect the vacuum line from the pump.

sometimes my engine sounds like this ,too. it is RPM relatet but not as loud as yours. it cannot be heared outside the cab. first i thought the converter nuts are loose, but they aren't.
