MPG 1994 idi turbo ???

Hey All,
Just what kinda millage ya getting, Went camping last week pulling a 24' bumper pull trailer weighing in at about 5500 lbs and got aroung 10 MPG, 94 F250, 4:10 , E4OD,
Also pulling a maybe 3-5% 2 mile grade peaked it at 40 MPH in 2nd gear, EGT's hitting 1K deg. Is this normal for these ole trucks ?
Thanks,
Bill

Next outing weigh the trailer.....bet it's more. With 410 you should have been zooming up the hills. If you keep your foot to the floor and have black smoke your wasting fuel.....

Re: MPG 1994 idi turbo ???

Well, when mine had an automatic in it, I was getting about 16mpg unloaded and pulling a 10k load at least 14. Now with the manual I get about 15 unloaded, and about 13 loaded. My pump is getting worn out, and I beat on it alot more now that I can upshift and roll the smoke easier. Also, it's flat as a board around here, so I'd say you're pretty average. The temps would be about right for pulling a load on a big grade. Re: MPG 1994 idi turbo ???

Thanks,
I get no smoke when pulling the grades, I shift it out of overdrive before the hill to build boost, Max of 9-10 psi just not happy with performance, My buddies GMC with a 6.0 pulls same grade just as well. with a 22' trailer.
The truck only has 48K original miles, my dad passed it on to me and sat most of the time it runs fine just short on power & MPG. Any ideas ?
Thanks,
Bill

Re: MPG 1994 idi turbo ???

You're not too far off I'd say. Is that the grade coming off of PCH going to Lompoc? I pull that grade at 45mph with a 30ft tt. That's a pretty good grade, gotta be closer to 5%. I average 11mpg with the trailer, 12-13empty, and 13-14 highway.

Re: MPG 1994 idi turbo ???

I get 12 mpg empty and 10 with a 4k lb trailer up and down the catskills. I had the timing checked and it is perfect. I get very little smoke if ever. I wish I could get better but I can think of anything else to do.

Re: MPG 1994 idi turbo ???

Funny how the MPG varies so much for these trucks,
Hey Fozz that would be one of the hills another heading south on 154 right before ya get to paridise road. Where about are you located ? I'm here just out side of Lompoc, Do some camping up at Figaroa Mtn. until the wheather gets to hot.
I know ya can open up the air intake turn up the fuel and change the waste gate ,, but what would the to to the fuel consumption ? and how difficult is it to do ?
Thanks,
Bill
