My new coolant filter

Well got the coolant filter parts in last night. Got them through a company in Hopkinsville at BuyRite hydraulics for less than Napa. Installed it this morning went smooth enough havent installed valves yet the ones they had were way to bulky for my likeing, Evey one at work was confused lol they had never heard of a coolant filter before, lol. Well I like it and it makes me fell better knowing the deposists have somewhere else to go besides my block. Whats the normal interval on these filters, anyone know? I'm using the sca free filters already have the system balanced at 1200ppm.

I like it. You did a nice job. Without the filter being in-line with the heater core, i wouldn't think it would plug up very fast, but i would guess that you should change it out soon. The worst of everything that's been floating in there for the last 17 years will get caught pretty quick, then on the second filter you won't catch as much.

I used a big filter temporarily when i flushed the system the first time. I was a sediment filter for our water lines at work. I plugged the first filter after about 5 min of run time, the second plugged in 10 min, and the 3rd ran for 15 and still had a little white on it so I stopped and took it off. I just wanted the worst out of my system.

kinda hard to tell in the pic, but its not in line with the heater core installed bypass style. I plan to run a week than change out, do that 3 times then go to a normal change interval. Thanks for the nice words

Run it until the filter no longer gets hot. If the filter is full there will be no flow. If there is no flow the filter will not get hot.

I installed mine a few weeks ago in an 04 6.0. My instructions were to change after the first 500, then another 1000, then another 2000 then yearly. I bought mine thru dieselsite.

Pardon the newby question, but could someone explain the need for a coolant filter? Also, what is this SCA level status that I keep reading about? I just got this truck and am loving it but if there is more I can do to make it last longer I would love to get on top of that. Thanks

ok, basically as a diesel runs the coolant surrounding the cylinders get "blown" away from the cylinders due to the vibration from the power stroke. A vacumn is created directly around the wall causing the coolant to violently slam back into the cylinder wall breking small bits off. After tiime it can eat through the wall if fact somewhere on this site are pictures of just that, the pinholes. As I was told SCAs or DCAs provide a sacrifical surface to be damaged rather than the metal, or if you can afford it Evans coolant wich will not be "blown" back in the first place negating the need for scas or dcas. As the scas are consumed they get weak and flake the flakes can get into the water pump seals or other places and do damage. I'm still in the process of learning this myself so I made it a point to find the test strips from Wix and test and adjust my levels and install a filter just to be safe. If I'm wrong please someone correct me

I got a filter and a head from an International dealer (bayside) some time ago, can someone please tell me in very small words where I should plumb it in? (Yes, I bought a "spare" filter too)
