Neccessary to change gears with 38's?

I own a stock 1991 F-350 crewcab w/ the 7.3 and 5 speed manual. It has 35x12.5's on it now. I am picking up a used set of 38 SSR's on Weld racing wheels and putting a 6" Skyjacker lift on.

Can I use the 38's with 4.10 gears or should I change to 4.56 gears? I don't do any towing. After paying for the lift and tires, I cannot really afford to change the gears, I will though if it's neccessry.

Thanks.

Re: Neccessary to change gears with 38's?

you should be fine with the 38's 4:10's and a 5 speed with out towing, the only tire I have ever seen that was a 38 and actually measured 38" was a bogger , most of them are only 36-37 anyway. bolt them on and let us know the outcome/

Thanks.

I can still start out in second gear with the 35's so I would think it should be fun. Just wanted to make sure.

I have a 4 speed and 37s with a 7.3 na, no loos of power, will smoke the tires in first gear, and I have towed my 26' camper with it.
