Need all of your personal opinions on rims and tires.

I am trying to decide between 2 sets. The first is 17x10 Chrome American Racing Atlas rims and 35x12.50r17 Pro comp M/Ts. The 2nd is Pro Comp Series 6001 18" Chrome rims with Toyo 35x12.50r18 M/Ts. I will attatch pictures of both. The only advise I have been given so far by one of the dealers is that he personally would like the series 6001 pro comps because its square pattern goes with our older square type of bodies opposed to the new trucks that are more rounded. This was before I thought about 18"s so he wasnt just saying that because he will make more money. My father and I have plans for this truck. Its in amazing shape and we plan on restoring it to look just about brand new and making it our "show" truck so to speak. I am not tippically concerned about the $400 price difference between the 2 as this truck is going to be around for long time and we are trying to make it as nice as possible with the cash we have.So what do you all think regardless of the price? It will not see any off-roading as you probably have figued out by now and will just see on-road useonly during the fall, spring and summer and I here the toyos provide a little better ride. What do you all think? It will be getting a 4" lift and dual shocks in the front also. I would like as many imputs as possible. Thanks alot of guys. Pro Comp Series 6001 18" Toyo 35x12.50r18 M/Ts American Racing Atlas 17" 35x12.50r17 Pro Comp M/Ts

Re: Need all of your personal opinions on rims and tires.

I like those 18 best.To me the 17" wheels you posted look too much like a rounded H2 style.Personally I don't really like either but they might actually look pretty good on the truck.Just something about that rib extending off the outter rim that I don't like. Then again,I am old school.Bullet holes,Rallys, saw blades, alcoas, etc. Not much of a "BLING" type person.

Re: Need all of your personal opinions on rims and tires.

No hard feelings, thats a good point, I just didnt think 18"s would be that much bigger but I guess I would have to see one next to my truck.

Re: Need all of your personal opinions on rims and tires.

I'm probably a bit of a traditionalist, but I'd go with the 17s because the 18s look like something that would be put on a van in "Pimp My Ride" on MTV.

Re: Need all of your personal opinions on rims and tires.

Not sure what the above mentioned rims look like but I would definately be sure to look at the load ratings. Especially if your planning on doing some heavy haulin.
When I was shopping the choice was simple - ALCOA has the best load rating.
The other thing I was considering was the Rickson 19.5's but $3600 was just a bit more than I wanted to spend on wheels for an 89. Especially when I have buddies at the tire shop

Re: Need all of your personal opinions on rims and tires.

I kinda liked the look of the 18s. and, as Runboy said, look at the load rating first off for the wheels.

I also prefer smaller wheels with bigger tires (16in rim with 44s ) but since our truck comes with 16.5 i wouldn't think 17 or 18 would be much bigger. I think the 18 with the 35s would still have the same proportional look as a stock rim and tire might have. anyways, post some picks of whatever you choose.

Re: Need all of your personal opinions on rims and tires.

If you want bling factor,,,try these rims http://www.chromewheel.com/4wd.htm they have pics of a 2003 Super Duty with (425/65/22.5) semi tires and rims. OR for one big ass tire combo read this http://www.4wheeloffroad.com/brandpa...ld/index2.html The site only has parts I III and IV of the artical but they are some really big tires ,, http://www.tirecraft.com/commercial/MichXMLspecs.htm the lagest size is 49.5 . If your only going to show then YOU dont have to worry about tires hitting fenders, frame, ect at full compretion. I like trucks with med. lifts and large cut out's at the wheel opening, with large tires.

Re: Need all of your personal opinions on rims and tires.

Of the 2 choices I think I would go with the Pro Comps, I think the tire shop guy was on to something. Also 18s may be a little big in my opinion but not far off. I am personally not a big fan of the 16" rim with monster off road tires I like to see a good proportion in tire to sidewall. 17s or 18s in the Pro Comp style with 35s will prolly look quite nice. I am planning on running 17" bullet holes (I think, mostly due to price and classic looks IMHO) with 35s. The more I look at the procomps the more I like them, still a little modern/bling for my taste but growing on me. In any case good luck on your selection and good luck on your project, definetly post some pictures as you move along. Maybe us New Englanders could all get together at the dragstrip sometime for some dieselstop fun lol.

Re: Need all of your personal opinions on rims and tires.

Ya that would be fun if we could all get together, thanks for the input so far guys you been great, now when you guys say that you like the 18"s or the 17"s better are you implying that you like the tires that I have chosen to go with on each one? If not, what do you all think of the tires? Thanks again.
