93 f250 7.3 l idi, my glow plug relay quit working on me. would not click anymore without hitting the side of it. I replaced relay with the bottom part also that has the wires going to the relay. now my lights do not go dim when i turn the key on like it use too. also the wait to start light comes on and goes off immediately. The relay cycles every time, and i checked the wires at the two glow plugs near the front and the voltage is cycling. But something is not right. i have to let it cycle like 7 or 8 times. where before it was only 2. i don't know what to check.
please help guys.
First I would check the ground cable from the relay control, make sure it is clean and tight.
Second, I would test each glow plug. A few bad gp's will shorten the cycle time enough that the rest won't heat up enough.
On edit, also make sure your glow plugs are Motorcraft/Beru. Champions and Autolites don't last to long, and can swell up causing the tip to breakoff upon removal, very bad for engine.

How is it that you "know" the GP's were working?
I suggest you check for continuity through all GP's, separate fact from feelings!

Ranchero50, where are the fusible links located at. I have checked and have voltage going to all of the plugs, but how do you check the glow plug without taking it out. I have heard nightmares about the tips breaking off

i will check glow plugs this weekend
maybe the new relay was providing to much current and burnt some up
because my old one the terminal actually broke off, and when i put the new one on it did dim the cab lights the first time i turned key on then never again. I'll check with a meter .

If they are Beru then you may be lucky, carbon may be a problem though. So do the TDC trick for the pistons.........

what is the top dead center trick. I have not read about that. Is beru Motorcraft. I priced today at international dealer he said they were international brand $18

replaced all 5 bad glow plugs. everything back to normal. really drawing some current now. must have had some bad to begin with and didn't know it. they were the beru, all came out easy.
