need help with oil cooler assembly

I am putting in another engine out of a van from a salvage yard. I am switching parts from original engine to donor engine.
I am trying to put the pick-up oil cooler together and I can't get the header assembly's on. I used an exploded view that I found on the forum to assemble the cooler. There is one big O ring and two smaller ones on each end in the drawing. I tried to lubricate the O rings with grease and push assembly's on with a bar clamp but they will not go on all the way. So I pulled it apart again to find that the steel back up rings were bent. Then I took apart the van oil cooler to inspect it to try to find an answer, only to find each end has one big O ring and one smaller O ring. Two O ring's instead of three.
Helllllp I'm gettin frustrated I have to get this ole buggy back together in a couple of days so I can go back to work.

Re: need help with oil cooler assembly

The double o-ring is only on the early models so yours will only take 4 o-rings total... The 6 o-ring ones were on the early 6.9's - sorry about that confusion - don't feel bad I learn the hard way as well many years ago

If you're going to buy a manual llok on Ebay for a CD. They have them from 1992 and up. I paid only $9.95 for mine.

Re: need help with oil cooler assembly

I third that!! I bought one from Helm for my old Bronco II. It is a regular ford shop manual expensive but well worth the money.
Tank's again to "everybody" I think this is the most use full site I have found yet. I get usefull information, witty comment's, and a couple good laugh's.

I wasn't in the service but I've been punched at,stabbed at, shot at, in a car accident, truck accident, and motorcycle accidents. I have numerous broken bones, and scars. I slowed down quite a bit but I can look back at it now and say "WOW WHAT A RIDE"
