I need advice on what year model from the 94 to the 97 F250 7.3L trucks were the most trouble free. I don't want any "Fly by Wire" Computer crap.
My reason is that I'm really not legal pulling my 26'+ Weekend Warrior Toy Hauler with a GVWR of 11,100 lbs. Are the 94 to the 97 F250 7.3Ls legally able to pull 11,100 lbs on a trailer hitch and what is the max hitch ball weight?
I didn't post this to the other 94-97 Forum yet as I know some of you have these years and want your opinions.
You have come to the right part of town, if you want "No Computers".
1994 was a split year, some are good, some are Power Strokes. After that, it was down hill, so to speak.

95-97 were all Power Strokes. In 94 there were three engines available - 7.3 non-turbo, 7.3 turbo indirect injected and 7.3 PowerStroke. Both the IDI turbo and the PowerStroke were badged as TURBO DIESEL, the PowerStroke badges did not come out until 1995.
In 94 the PowerStroke was only available with a manual transmission so if you are looking for an auto you can look at any 94 turbo diesel or 94 non-turbo. If you are looking for a hand shaker you will have to verify PowerStroke vs IDI.

'95 F250 ext cab long bed, PSD, 5 speed manual, two wheel drive, 3.55 gears, LUK clutch conversion, 450 lb homemade REAR BUMPER, homemade open element AIR FILTER, aluminum bed cap. With me in the cab (285#) and full of fuel weighs 6,580 lbs (steer 3420 drive 3160)
well i know i bought my 94 idi turbo with the 5 speed and she has some low pulling 1st and 2nd, gears, mine is also a 4x4 with 4:10 gears, and if the book is right there is not that much difference between the HP on the powerstroke and the IDI turbo of that year,

Any 94 powerstroke I have been around has been one hard runner of a truck...ANY...that is when they are unloaded. As far as I am concerned, a stock IDI will outpull a stock powerstroke any day, so the horsepower differences are basically assinine. The GVRW is the same on the size of truck no matter the engine. Isnt it just what the truck will physically have enough size for? The DOT could care less about how much brute power you have to pull it, as long as it is legally in your weight specs of the frame and chassis.

Were the first Powerstrokes all computerized or partially.

The first powerstrokes are just as computerized as the '97;s...difference electronic wise is the PCM's in the 94.5's and the '95s are flashed with OBD I diagnotics instead of the OBD II that we see and use today.
Thanks Casey,
That is important for me to know. I dislike OBDI as it gives very little data. If it's going to be computerized an OBDII Reader or Browser will take the guesswork out of troubleshooting. I have a full OBDII Browser that I use on my and my family's cars/trucks except for my youngest son who has a new Jeep Grand Cherokee that has OBDIII.
I want to thank everyone who answered my quest for knowledge.

The reason the OBDI diesn't do anything on the idi manual tranny is that there is pretty much nothing for it to do. You may also want to look at 350 duallys. I think you should be legal pulling that, you'll need the right licence on the truck and probably a class 5 hitch.

I know there's some diesel duallies for sale down here in the LA area. Look on autotrader.com and use an LA zip (90041 is NE LA, 91105 is me here in Pasadena).
