hey guys im look in buying a 1990 ford f250 with the 7.3 liter. and i've heard some bout the cavitation problems with them, and i was wondering if there was any way of telling if there is any cavitation in the motor without having to tear it apart? thanks for looking and any answers you give. jim

If it has hydrolocked it will not turn over......
If it belches white smoke that smells like coolant.........
If there is coolant in the oil ie milky/green slime.......... sometimes other things too.....

Ask the PO if he used SCAs (supplimental cooling additives)..... get a few SCA test strips from NAPA to check things out and find out the level of protection if he states yes.

Note some A/F has SCAs mixed in them, so find out what brand it was........ and check the color.... green is all you really need......
