Hello. I'm new to the idi and I'm buying one tomorrow morning with a glow plug issue. Whats the easiest way to disable the glow plugs if I have to ether it? I plan on fixing it but just want to get it running so I can get it home. It's an 89 F-350.
Simplest way to do it so you don't have to remember how the wires went is to just unplug the wires on the tops of the glow plugs. that way they won't get warm and you just have to hook the 8 connectors back up at the GP's. You should OHM them out so you can see if any are burnt out. 2-3 OHMs is good...If you do replace any use BERU/MOTORCRAFT not autolite.ZD1 If I remember right.

Pull the air box, locate the glowplugs controller and relay, pull the plastic cover off, locate the thin white wire on top of the relay, and pull it off - glowplugs system disabled, and no danger of catching stuff on fire as nothing will ever get powered up.

Thanks Couldn't remember which wire it was...I hate getting older

Thanks for all your help! Got the truck home. It's got issues but with the help of the forum they can be straightened out. I've owned many diesels over the years (6.2's, vw's, a powerstroke). I own a logging business and I needed a dump truck. It's a F-350 4x4 with a plow and the price was right ($1800)
