New injectors with pump?

I've been nursing a sick injector pump for a long time now but haven't replaced it because of lack of time and money. Now a big oil leak requires work so I guess it would be silly to gain access to the valve covers without doing the IP job while I'm at it. I'm trying to save as much money as possible. Is it silly to not replace the injectors and return lines while I'm at it? I'm just about to hit 200K. Naturally this all comes about right after ordering 4 new tires!

Thanks, Brad

Re: New injectors with pump?

i just ordered a new pump from ken and asked him this very same question...as long as you have no return line leaks and no other signs of bad injectors (knocks, etc) you will be fine just keep in mind that these items both have about a 100,000 life and are usually serviced together, and anytime you do the injectors you have to do return lines or you will probably spring a bunch of leaks...bottom line you will be fine and when/if you decide to do injectors also you gain even more power! Re: New injectors with pump?

Usually, I change injectors when I change the IP. The old injectors will be tired, and open more easily (sooner) than the they did with the older tired pump. A new pump with old injectors is a rough combination. But I trust Ken's advice also. He's played with it all more than I have. At the very least, I'd have the old injectors tested.

Re: New injectors with pump?

Your going to have to take the lines from the pump to the injectors loose anyway so it will take you another 20 minutes to change the injectors. I've had at least 5 sets of injectors tested in the last 3 months or so. Out of all those injectors which I thought a lot of them should be good. I ended up with 1 set. The bad ones had no spray pattern, just a stream. A lot of them had less than 100,000 miles. At 2.30 for diesel fuel it won't take long to pay for a set of injectors.
