Newbie with an 89 International S1600

Wondering if anybody can point me in the right direction to find some parts for my 89 s1600 7.3 idi box truck. I am most interested in finding a different rear gear, but would also like to find a repair manual of some sort?

I have parts from a banks sidewinder that I am hoping to install soon, although I am probably going to send the turbo out for inspection/rebuild first. I would like to install a tach, but am not sure how to calibrate it, other than to know what RPM it should be turning at a certain mph, which I guess I can get by measuring rear tire rollout.

I am also curious about injector timing, I don't see much mention of anybody changing this?

Thanks for any help, I am ( or at least was in a previous life) a mechanic, but only worked on gas stuff, so I'm a little intimidated by the oil burner.

Try ebay or Helm Inc for manuals.......

See what stamping info is on the rear axle and investigate it.

Usually IP timing is done after IP and injector replacement, not much sense doing it on an old IP and injectors..... when nothing matches.

Does this truck have a 2-speed rear axle? I'm thinking a big-truck repair shop will be your best bet for gears for that, as it's way more heavy-duty than the stuff our pickups have.

The Banks setup is a great upgrade for any n/a IDI, and your heavy truck definitely will appreciate it. Having the turbo examined and rebuilt as needed is a great idea as well, and it can potentially save you some troubles down the road.

Tachometer - if you replace the injection pump gear housing with one from a '89-'94 IDI truck you will have provisions for a factory tachometer sender - then you'll need to locate a factory tachometer gauge cluster for the S1600 dash, and hook it up to the sender in the gear housing.

Injectors, you can shim those to change the pop-pressure, this is how you calibrate them so all 8 of them open at the same line pressure. Injection pump can be timed by turning it slightly on the gear housing. Like Pete said tho, timing injection system is a waste of time and money if you plan on replacing most of the components anyways.
