oil drain plug leaks

i always tell myself i'll take care of this the next time i change my oil.

my oil drain plug leaks a little bit, not losing much oil, but still.... anybody have any tips to improve this? i already got a new copper washer from napa.

torquing it to whatever it says in the haynes manual... dont think its very much at all though.

think it could also be oil dripping down the sides of the oil pan from another leak then collecting on the drain plug itself..

Drain Plug

If the threads are not crossed and you can torque it, should be OK. Has the sump been hit or distorted? Losing oil? If so look elsewhere. I get sweating from the rear main that is not worth repairing .....yet. May be your problem.

IIRC there is a little copper washer that needs replaced every oil change. I just put a Fumoto valve on mine.

I thought my drain plug was leaking and did the same thing you did with a new plug and washers. But found it to be a small pin hole where the pan rusted through near the plug. I ended up brazing it. It's been holding good for over a year.

I have used the red high temp seal for leaks, ran over a curb gashed pan, cleaned with breakclean and smeared on and never leaked, also used it to seal oil plug on last oil change

pan is not rusty..

by bung you are referring to the hardened nut on the inside of the pan right?
i hope mine is not stripped.

Ford did not have new magnetic plug.

need good source for magnetic oil drain plug and correct Napa part number for copper gasket please.

may consider fumoto valve instead of new plug, but either way need correct gasket as i am starting to doubt the one thats on there.

thanks.

Napa stocks the original magnetic drain plug. Don't use a copper washer, use the original Ford nylon type.
