My old style, non-wastegated, Banks trubo has a hole in the exhaust portion of the turbo (I think it is a corosion hole). I noticed there is black residue on the cover but you can't see or smell the exhaust. The other day it died and I had to crank it alot to start and white smoke came pouring out of the hole. Truck drives fine, Poor milage, starts fast every time, except when I kill the batteries. My buddy thinks I can just weld the exhaust housing. Or should I buy a new Banks turbo kit. What kind of milage and power gains might I get from the new style turbo. I get around 11-12mpg. Just wanted to see if anyone else has gone through this.

Had an email from Banks yesterday saying they were having a huge sale to offload new items that were in opened or damaged boxes. I'm very disappointed with Banks customer service, but it may be less money for you than getting a new kit.

Do you have a pyrometer? The hole you describe could be the port in the Y before turbo for the pyro.
I had the old style on my 90 for about 200,000 miles. Got beter mileage than the 91 with the WG setup. Not that much better running in a stick truck.

High temp silicone may be doable, or, I use high temp furnace & stove gasket adhesive (you should be able to get that stuff at Lowe's or any hardware store)
