Bought my truck used about a year ago and the PO added a trailer brake controller, and a CB speaker. Adjacent to the brake controller, mounted up under the dash is a black plastice port that looks exactly like a female telephone jack. Any Ideas about what this is? Thanks

I bet it's for a Valentine 1 radar detector. I've got one and it uses phone wire to hook to the power source.

As far as I know, a Valentine One Radar detector can only be bought from the valentine website. I have never seen them available anywhere else. I bought mine about 8 or 9 years ago for $400. Here's a link to the V1 Website. To make sure that my speculation is correct you can look at the parts involved in their 'parts dept'. It's called a Direct-Wire Power Adapter. On the site it looks like hte price is still $399. But let me say to you that Mine has paid for itself many times.
These detectors are espesially usfull when used in combination w/ something like a Uniden Beartracker when you are driving on the interstate.
Glad I could help.

I once had one of those OLD motorola cell phones that was in the portable satchel, about 4x6x10. The phone could disconnect from the battery pack and attach to the mount installed under the seat and dash in my truck. It was hooked up so that it could even honk my horn when I recieved a phone call and I was out in the field. That was state of the art, about 20 years ago.
I got tired of it and just unplugged the dial pad/ phone unit and kept it plugged into the mobile battery pack satchel and gave it to a relative who had a house boat. It was much more powerful (3 watt) and comfortable to use than these mini phones. My truck still has the telephone jack in it now.
Stay cool,
Mike
