Playing limbo with my truck!

How low can I go.....So far this year I've been able to start my truck at -22C (approximately -9F) without plugging it in. With 0W-30 synthetic motor oil, brand new motocraft batteries and a working glow plug system my truck started without thinking. I am quite impressed, because last winter when I bought the truck it wouldn't start at any temperature below freezing without being plugged in. Mind you though at that time it had 15W-40 oil, one bad glow plug and two mismatched weak batteries. I'm going to see if I can make it down to
-25C without plugging it in. Anything lower I'm just going to plug it in to save wear and tear.

With 0-30 synthetic I would hope it would start at -45F not plugged in after 3 days of cold soaking. If it does not, then plug it in drive it to Manitoba and we will teach it how to start.....

Re: Playing limbo with my truck!

Keep a close eye on your oil level until you figure out how much oil the engine will consume with that thin oil. I put 0w30 synthetic in a Camry that I used to own and was greatly surprised to find that I was 3 quarts low (and not even oil change time again yet) when it had not been an oil user at all before. It quit using after I went back to 10W30.
