Positive battery cable

I need to replace the positive cable. Where can I get a new cable as cheaply as possible. The dealer is asking $191.00.
Can one be made. The other question is I have one glow plug connector the is badly corroded and needs replaced. Can you
buy a replacement end all others good just need one.

Thanks

Re: Positive battery cable

LMC offers the positive cable for $119. you can also have a new one made, but i've never been able to find the good heavy duty ends. as for the glow plug terminal i have used a 12 gauge butt splice terminal. it takes a little bit to get it on the plug. i plan on checking to see if my local stealer can get me a price on a new harness.

Re: Positive battery cable

I would go to a local alternator/battery shop and have them make you up a new one. Just take in the old one, and they should be able to fab a new one for much less.
Also, if you need a new glow plug connector go buy some plain jane bullet connectors (forget the official size). They fit right onto the tip.

Re: Positive battery cable

A lot of people have had really good luck with THIS company. Seems to be a top quality product all the way and a very reasonable price.

Most larger Napa stores carry bulk cable and ends

Re: Positive battery cable

if you want cheap just buy one cable for starter to right side battery, one more cable with 3/8 open end, secure it to first battery terminal bolt and run it over to your second battery. Got mine at autozone for about 12.00 each cable 3 years ago. Also getting rid of the group 65 batteries and squeezing in some 950cca group 31s will make the motor spin over so fast it has no choice but to start.

Re: Positive battery cable

You can also look into buying arc welding cable and make your own.

Re: Positive battery cable

Most big truck shops or farm implement stores can either tell you where to get one made or they have the parts to make them up. Copper has gone up so the prices are probably going to be higher, but some one local got on made and it looked really good. He said about $80.00.

Re: Positive battery cable

The local Ford Stealership wants $179 plus tax for the stock replacements.

I found a set of 2/0 positive cables with an aux lead at Napa (part # 717986) made by Welden. They are $138 plus tax so I ended up paying ~$150. These don't come up on their computer but the store mgr happened to know what I was talking about when I was telling the clerk what it was for and he found them on the shelves in the back. These cables are actually for a different application and are a little longer then stock but much thicker.

The CustomBatteryCables.Com site has a 2/0 positive cable set for $78 plus shipping ($10) or you can get the positive and both negatives for ~$155 with free shipping. A much better deal if you can wait for them to ship. Cllick here to see there site: Heavy Duty, Aftermarket, Custom Battery Cables for your Car, Truck or RV

I priced buying the 2/0 cable at ~$8 per foot, #4 auxilary cable, all the terminals, ends, etc and figured it would be over $100 in parts for me to replace all the cables and I would screw it up myself.

If I had the time I'd order from CustomBatteryCables.com There is alot of good info on their site if you want to know about the difference bettween Marine grade, Welding Cable, Automotive sizes etc.
