Power Steering?

Well I have power steering when I turn left and every so often when I turn right it is like I have no power steering at all. It is actually pretty scary, it will do it sometimes and then it will not. I have checked to make sure all the linkage is working properly and not binding. What is the deal? I really need my truck back on the road. Has anyone ever seen this?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Power Steering?

Yes. The problem is inside the power steering gearbox.

Since it is intermittant I would try flushing and changing the power steering fluid before replacing the whole unit.

Re: Power Steering?

Sounds like something sticking in the control valve in the steering gear.

Re: Power Steering?

Thanks for the information! I am going to try flushing the system out, I looked into a new steering box and I found that the local part stores have the box in stock. I guess this might be a common problem? Thanks again!

Re: Power Steering?

just had this problem. what you have is a bad spool valve in the gear box NO PARTS available had to buy a new gear box but it is pretty easy to replace. P.S. flushing did not help mine.
