Re: power steering pump- on board air

I would try either the scrapyard or a Ford Dealer. Send Heath, (hesutton) a PM. I'm sure he will tell you where to get one. Tim

My E-350 4x4 is a Beach Vehicle. I would be interested in an onboard-air scheme. More info please?

Re: power steering pump- on board air

I assume you have V-belts?

I know the 2.3L in the Mustang II (74 - 78) used double V-belts for all the accesories. I'm sure lots of other applications in the 70's did too.

Re: power steering pump- on board air

Nope! No V belts.

My serpentine belt should be 115" long, best replacement I can find is 114.5, which might work.

Is onboard air impossible with a serpentine belt? What about if I remove the A/C compressor?

Re: power steering pump- on board air

what about if you take a single sheave pump pulley--and weld it to the front of your serp pulley--skip weld it at even spots so it doesnt go out of balance----- some may tell you this wont hold---right--your welding on the od of the pulley--also--so you can get this off later on--take a hole saw-- 2 1/2 inch--and bore a hole in the exact center--again so it doesnt go off balance--this will be enough to get the puller thru to get a hold of the recess area---

Re: power steering pump- on board air

thanks all,my truck does have v-belts.the mustang pully may work i asked the guy at auto zone and he said the pumps are pretty much the same although he didnt have a mustang pump in stock to compare.i did send hesutton a personal message no reponse as of yet.there arent many junk yards where i live.the serpantain belt could probably be made to work just would take some trail and error.i would not forfit your a/c there is some room there in that spot to work with.i will try to bring back the orginal post for the ones who havent read it.the measurements seem to be spot on and is drawn up very well........robert

Re: power steering pump- on board air

Robert,

Got the PM. The pully was actually on the truck when I bought it. I pretty sure the PS pump is used on lots of applications. Might be able to grap one off some other Ford. Like stated above, check local boneyards, autoparts, or even Ford.

As far as serp belts. It would work. I have a few part numbers for serp pulleys for the York compressors. I've seen the combo v-belt/serp. pulleys. Probally work just as well and you won't need such a long serp. belt. to turn the York.

Photo's in my gallery of the York. I plan on doing an article one of these days when I have more time off of work.

Heath

Re: power steering pump- on board air

I have the combo serp/vbelt pully from Kilby at onboardair.com.

It replaces your ALTERNATOR pulley and your compressor mounts next to the alternator.

If you're going to drive the compressor off of the power steering pump, the kilby/onboardair.com pully will NOT work for you as it's not made to work on the PS pump (too small a serp diameter).

For alternator drive: Do not order the Kilby overdrive pully as its' serp diameter is much too small. I ordered the O/D one first and had to send it back. Just order the standard pully and it will still overdrive your alternator (and give you more juice at idle) as it is a slightly smaller then stock diameter.

Good luck, Mark
