i have a 1988 7.3 250 with a banks turbo. for the past few months i have noticed that it has huge surges of power while the engine is getting into the normal temp range. at first i thought i may have somthing to do with the turbo. like bearings siezing up. but im not so sure now. tell me what you guys think. i havent done any thing to it other than giving it oil changes, fuel filter changes, and i had to replace the alternator last year.(and it surged before i did those things) i havent done anything to the fuel system. the guy who owned it before me installed the turbo so he may have done somthing to it. a guy on another site said it may be advanced timing but wouldent that make it run a little worse? i would like to get this fixed before summer.
it sounds like your getting air in your fuel lines either your getting a hole in one of your suction lines or getting air in your filter or via your return lines all of which can happen with out any one touching it
If I accidently turn off my electric lift pump, engine will do the surging thing just before it dies. Tonight I drove 5 miles into town on just the fuel in the line cuz the e-pump was off. It died at a traffic light, but I flipped on the e-pump and it fired right up again. So, my vote is replace the lift pump. OkieGringo
