I have heard that the powershot 2000 propane system will work on the 7.3 IDI's. Is this true. I see them advertised for the powerstrokes so I was wondering it plugs in electronically to the powerstrokes at all, or if it is all mechanical hook up that can easily be done on an IDI. I have found a used system that is said to work fine, but I don't want to buy it if i am not sure it will work. I heard that propane makes an incredible difference in performance when used correctly. So does anyone know how much an estimated power increase would be?

The powershot will give your IDI motor about 350 more hp... Not really but it sure does wake up these motors. Several members have made their own systems that work very well and are cheaper that the powershot 2000 ayatems. I really think the water-methonel injection system (window washer fluid) is a better system and the "fuel" is cheaper....

I still am a little worried about putting in one of the h2o kits because I am not sure its a good thing to spray water into a hot engine. I don't want to deal with any cracks. Can anyone convince me otherwise?

I have had this system for the past 4 years on my truck, and it does just what I had hoped it would. I would say that that there is about a 50 hp gain under load, it really does make for an engine that comes alive.
One of the best features is the proportional to boost pressure system which gives you the most propane when you have the highest need. But the best feature, when I compared this system to the others on the market when I bought, were it's safety features.
My system has been trouble free.....

My dad is worried that the extra power from a propane kit will burn up the E4OD. I just had it rebuilt about 3,000 miles ago and it is in fact in the shop right now getting a leak fixed and seeing why it doesn't shift properly. So, the transmission will be "like new". It has a shift kit and a Banks transcommand. Is this anything I should be worried about?

The E4OD's problems are not mechanical from what I understand, it's all in the electronic valving that is the issue, so extra HP into it doesn't make any difference. Besides, they put those behind the powerstrokes, so they know how to take the extra HP. As for water injection, your not putting enough in to actually cool the metal. It turns to steam and cools the air charge. No risk of cracking if used in proper amounts and is atomized properly, but many avoid it due to the infamous story of Travis and the Enterprise.
