How old is the rad cap...... 13PSI Note: any significant mark/depression in the cap gasket ...requires a replacement Your problem is not normal, when was the last coolant and Tstat change.

new rad this spring, new rad cap this spring new preston diesel antifreeze(red) this spring.thrmostat was changed 18 months ago.i had the truck idling in the yard while i picked my tools up from the other repairs and there was antifreeze leaking from the resevoir.the truck temp gauge was at half ,it usually runs at the "N" on normal
water pump pulley is tight, ran truck for a couple of minutes and squeezed the upper rad hose and it felt like a pressure surge as i released the hose.are there other ways to test the water pump.are they hard to replace or do i need it done at a shop.
just put a new rad cap on.the truck ran great for 10 minutes then the overflow tank started to fill up and the temp gauge started to go up.i could shure use some advice on this.need the truck for work.
Water pump is not hard to replace and not that expensive. You do need a special tool to take the clutch fan off. I used one free just put 100$ deposit at auto part's store. It takes about an hour and a half to do.
thanks lunas and chuckster.this is what is going on.the truck starts fine.after 10 minutes of idling the antifreeze over flow starts to fill up and the temp gauge goes up slightly. when i started the truck cold i had the rad cap off to check for bubbles in the rad,no bubbles.i picked up a new thermostat from the int. dealer($28 ,ford wanted $34).would a bad thermostat cause this problem if so why and should i replace the water pump (i have a 94 turbo diesel parts truck, can i use a used water pump)
No bubbles at idle might be misleading if you are doing it with the engine cold. Take the cap off and run the engine long enogh for the thermostat to open and watch for flow. You might need to test the coolant for presence of combustion gases. IIRC test kits are available at most A/P stores. like Pete said your problem is not normal.
I don't like the idea of a used W/P..too many variables

When my water pump went out last spring in Montana. I pulled into my driveway it just started leaking fluid out of water pump. I think there is like a plug that is desighned to leak when they wear out. That was how my pump went out. I think mine was 70$,worth it for the lifetime warrenty.
