Propane conversion?

This $3.00+ per gallon is killing me. Does anybody know about diesel to propane conversions? Where do I start to find out about conversion, costs, etc?

Re: Propane conversion?

I didnt think you could do a diesel to propane. They dont have spark plugs, and i thought that on prop conversions they still used them on hte gassers.

When you hear people talking about propane on here, its not a conversion, its just an added thing on top of the diesel. it acts as a catalyst to burn more fuel = more mpg

Re: Propane conversion?

You can't use 100% propane in a diesel. You'll need to swap in a gas engine to start.

Put "gas prices around the world" in Google and it will help ease the pain.

Re: Propane conversion?

10 or so years ago there was an article in a truck mag about a truck that was converted to run on straight propane. dont remember how he did it but the power output was about the same. i think he used a 3406b cat at 425 hp they did mention the in real hot conditions that the pressure relief valve would pop off. sorry i dont recall more but i can try to blame it on "sometimers".

Re: Propane conversion?

Some where i read that propane has diferent ignition temp than diesel so you cant use propane only. Now the propane could raise the mpg but I use it mostly for the extra power and to lower temps.
