Pulling heads, do I need a hoist?

A diesel mechanic friend offered to help me look into my truck and see why its getting such low compression. He is a stellar mechanic and will set things right.

I have a question for you guys though, to get at the pistons, I have to remove the heads, are they too heavy to remove by hand? The Haynes manual I have mentioned the use of a hoist. I don't know their exact weight. Should I rent a hoist? Im not the strongest guy in the world, but not the weakest. Is it something 2 people could do?

PS. Does anybody know of any good places to buy re-ring kits?

You might get away with removing them using two people, but I wouldn't try installing them without a hoist. Especially if the engine is still in the truck. Probably plenty of places to get re-ring kit. Jegs/ Summit/ dealer

DD I would advise remove the engine and put it on a stand. Unless you like balancing on the fenders.......

Also remove the bolts in reverse # order by undoing 1/8th of a turn per round.......that is if you do not want the possibility of cracked heads
