Putting A factory turbo on a 88 7.3 OIL LINE QUESTION

I have a good friend that bought a 93 factory turbo truck. He has 2 88 - 89 7.3 engines. He has the older engine ready to go into the truck but found the factory turbo had a larger oil supply line to the turbo. The older engine has a smaller hole in the block. Any suggestions , remmedies.

Re: Putting A factory turbo on a 88 7.3 OIL LINE QUESTION

You mean the hole in the block that the oil pressure comes from is smaller than the feed tube? I'm going to say adaptor time.... the threads should just be NPT.

I had the same issue with a factory 2.3L turbo setup, the threads weren't the same size...

Re: Putting A factory turbo on a 88 7.3 OIL LINE QUESTION

The threads in the block are 1/8" iron pipe standard thread.
Get yourself down to the local hardware or even most auto parts stores and they should have a 1/4" to 1/8" reducer coupling or bushing laying around. It wont matter if you use black iron galvanized or brass since no water will be flowing through it.

Good luck,
Eric

Will the smaller hole put enough oil to the turbo? Dont want to destroy a new turbo.

Re: Putting A factory turbo on a 88 7.3 OIL LINE QUESTION

yep itl supply plenty of oil . that is one of the differences in the turbo block they have a 1/4 npt thread in the block and and natural asp has 1/8 . every aftermarket turbo is set up to use the i/8 . i personaly replaced mine with a stainless braided teflon line . got it from a place that makes hydraulic hoses .
