im almost to the point to rebuilding my engine has never been rebuilt it has 563k on it its a 92 f250 i need to no everything from the tools i need to the parts and where to get them and the steps on how to do it???
i dont think it has because when i bought it and changed the oil and every thing it just had hose whater in it and no bought it used had 2 owners before me
Then if your considering a complete rebuild search out an AERA qualified shop and discuss sleeving all 8 cylinders..... They will have the correct specs for your engine and know the limits of any machining to be carried out. The heads/block especially should NOT be shaved or decked.

Rebuilding any engine is an ambitious project. You will need PATIENCE...after that it's alot of tools and measuring devices and lots of spec sheets. It would take me a while to list all the tools needed, and then I would probably leave one or some out. I have all the tools but since I don't do rebuilds everyday I can't recite off the top of my head exactly what you need. But at least a GOOD torque wrench 0-150 ft. lbs. a good set of 1/2 drive sockets and ratchet, a long breaker bar. another set of 3/8 drive sockets and ratchet. a large variety of open end/box end wrenches. micrometers...If you are serious about building the engine yourself. then do as Pete suggests and take the block and heads to a good machine shop and have the block sleeved and the valve job done and have the crankshaft checked for grind or replacement. then when it comes to reassembly get a shop manual or even a haynes or chilton manual and follow the directions. Any questions along the way can and will be answered here. I almost forgot, these engine weigh LOTS and you will need a good engine hoist and I wouldn't put it on anything less than an 2000 lb. capacity engine stand.

Would you be better off finding a good used motor or a re-man?

im thinking about getting a used 1 and rebuilding it so i would no be out my truck for a while so im may just get a used 1 rebuild it drop it in my truck and rebuild my motor and sale it
The bottom ends are pretty strong on the 7.3s... the weak points are the valves (guides) and rockers (wear)... You may just need to redo the heads....... doing a warm engine compression test might be a good idea. Note we do NOT do wet tests on our engines the compression area is too small and could hydrolock.
Cavitation is always a possible on older/high miler engines if SCAs were never used.
Have a good well-known shop do your machine work and heads. International (Navistar) sells an engine rebuild kit for our engines (thats what I did) with everything you need. My machine guy did square-up my block and heads, but he recessed the valves in the head to regain the valve to piston clearance. I was apprehensive about this, but the local Navistar shop uses the same guy. While you're at it, you might consider putting in turbo-rated rods, pistons and valves in case you later want a turbo (that's what I did). Definitely get a heavy-duty cherry picker and stand. These engines are about 1,000lbs fully dressed!
