Rear axel question...?

The van starts shaking in 80 km/h and in speeds over that. Before it just happend in speeds over 100 km/h, but to day it started when I reathed 80 km/h. Could it be the drive shaft? In tranny? Is it something I can fix easy or is it a big job? The van has past 100k miles just now on the meter, so it was bound to happend I think. Anyone have or have had the same problem? I shock the drivetrain really hard with the tranny in neutral and I'm able to "move" the drive shaft a little in the tranny. Can it be that or is that normal? Not out or in, but up and down, back and forth, so I suspect I'll havve to change something in there, but what and how big is the job. Anyone?

Thanks for all info.

Hans Petter

Re: Rear axel question...?

Have looked at the universal joints, do you get any pusating squeeking as you roll slowly ie squeek...squeek. Mark the universals for correct alignment before any removal front to back and axle yoke. Then remove the driveshaft to thoroughly inspect them. You will not always find a problem with the driveshaft installed. Look for stiff movement, sloopy worn out cups, and rust dust from disintegrated roller beaings in the cups.

What transmission do you have the E40D (E on the door post data plate) most likely. There is a replaceable bushing in the tail piece if you feel the movement in the UP and Down is excessive.

Do you have a 2 piece driveshaft with a center hanger bearing or one piece.......

Re: Rear axel question...?

Thanks, I'll do that. I have one piese drive shaft and yes, the squeek...squeek sound is there. I have E4OD tranny. I shall try replacing the universal joints and see whats happening.

Thanks again. Mush easyer when you have a place too look and something too look for.
