rear axle maintenance gone wrong

Ok, i wanted to service my rear axle just as i did on the front wheels on my truck 4x2(that is repack the wheel bearing) the ones on the front where easy but the back is a totally diferent story i did not find grease and the bearings use gear oil instead. I just got to remove one of the hubs on the rear wheel before i found out i cant put it back on place with out going any further, soo... any of you guys can tell me how to put this thingy back on its place please? I will need the truck later so i have to find how to put it all the way IN.

Thank you, Exekiel.

Re: rear axle maintenance gone wrong

is this a duelie? what rear axle?

all i know is the 10.25 on my F250. i just put myself through a crash course in full floaters this past weekend to replace the seal on the hub. i'm guessing you removed the ratcheting axle nut that is inside the hub. is this right?

Re: rear axle maintenance gone wrong

All you did was remove the eight bolts and the locking cones. The axle should go right back in with no problem. Try rotating the axle as you push inward on it. Make sure the o-ring is in place before pushing in on the axle. Tim

Re: rear axle maintenance gone wrong

just had passenger side out yesterday & to get it to seat back in had to tip in my hands & turn SLOWLY to get to slide back into place. dont forget to back adjusting nut off 5 clicks after you torque it .

Re: rear axle maintenance gone wrong

well Thank you everyone, i did come back in while turning it slowly . At the same time i put new shoes on the rear brakes, i think one of the rear cylinders is leaking very little cause i could see some dust (asbestos?) build up inside not only on the drum but around the cylinder itself and it was wet a could say minimal but enough to let the dust build up.

Thank you, Exekiel.
