rebuilding Mitshu starter M3T90071, M3T90072

Howdy Folks:

starter crapped out - been droaning slower and slower

doubt its the solenoid as I just replaced that 2 months prior

there is a kit on eBay - I read a bit of one who has rebuilt a few using these parts will decent results - but did not elaborate

I understand these starters have a rather hearty weld / spot weld

Anyone have first hand knowledge here who might make suggestions - will like to try my hand at rebuilding before I go off to AutoZone and get the lifetime - Im in it for the experience

cheers thanks in advance

Re: rebuilding Mitshu starter M3T90071, M3T90072

well i attempted to rebild mine but i ran into the problem with the spot welds the other thing i had a problem with was the insulating discs the positive brushes sit on, when i pryed the brush spring back it ripped the holder out of the disc.

i have had to replace a few of these (on vehicles other than my own) and on everyone i have taken appart i have noticed theres alot of brush left(1/2") but it can't make contact on the comuntator because the wire going into the brush bottoms out on the brush holder. if i was to do another one i would grind a little slot out of the brush holder so that the brush can go in deeper.

i could have cobbled mine and made it work but throwing a new one in there was so much easier and cleaner
