Replacement carpet

Anybody have recommendations on replacement carpet kits for my 88 SC?

I've looked at several suppliers like Auto Custom, LMC, NPD, and ABC upholstery, but would love some input from people who are happy with the replacement carpet they bought. Don't know who makes the best kits.

Fiver hitch, fiberglas cover set, and mesh tailgate soon to go on sale - I'll be towing a travel trailer with it and intend to put a shell on for solo camping and gear storage. Thinking about a Gearvendors OD. Pics as soon as I finish cleaning her up!

Re: Replacement carpet

At least two of them mold and finish here. Don't know if the material is imported. I'd be surprised if it were not, given the state of the U.S. textile industry.

I try to buy domestically made products, but they need to be competitive on quality. I'll pay a little more, but not twice as much. I can't afford to be that dogmatic!

But.... my question was if anybody has direct experience with a good supplier.

i'll be watching this one closely.
Big Black is in the beginning stages of a cosmetic makeover - starting with the interior. i've done similar research, jim & i'm looknig forard to comments. i'm going to soundproof the cab like i have dual 3" straight pipes, no turbo & a 13 year old vinyl floor... oh wait, all that's true[ QUOTE ]

Re: Replacement carpet

Cool... I'm thinking about replacing the carpet in my truck sooner or later. Don't see why not to... nearly everything else is new... :-)

Re: Replacement carpet

Frank, I'm starting a soundproofing project as well. Got sidetracked with another home project or I'd have the interior back together by now!

I've got all of the interior trim panels other than the dash out, have some new door panels from LMC, a 5 gallon tub of Quiet Car and enough Cascade VB-3 and VB-4 acoustical barrier to line the firewall, floor, rear, and sides of the cab. (Mike, the Cascade stuff is expensive but U.S. made and very high quality! It has transformed a couple of project cars I've ridden in. I will pay more for a technically superior product...) Going to try the Q-car brushed on the inner side of the outer door skins and replacing the vapor barrier with heat-shrink damper on the inner skins. Haven't decided how to do the a-pillars yet. Doing window runs and weatherstrips on the doors. With all of that work, couldn't see any sense in not doing the carpet too!

My weakness is that I'm always one project ahead mentally - I'm already drooling over what it'll be like with the Gearvendor or U.S. Gear OD unit - the next big improvement.

Good luck on your project.

Come on guys - nobody has replaced carpeting?

Jim

Re: Replacement carpet

Hey there Jim,

I sound and heat insulated the cab of my project truck this spring. I also put in a new carpet. Must truck catalogs sell NPI carpeting.(NPD, LMC, JC Whitney, and so on). Don't know where it is made though. NPD has good prices, but I found that the cheapest place to get the NPI carpeting is from Summit racing. I found the same carpet I purchased from NPD in the Summit catalog for $20 less. The carpet fits very well, but you do have to cut the holes for the shifter(s). They do mark the bottom of the carpet from the factory, so you know where to cut. You can trim as needed once it is in the truck. I'm very pleased with the NPI carpet I have in the project truck.

Here are the required photos:
Test Fit
Hole for shifter
Carpet with shift boot in place

I think I paid $119 plus shipping. Summit had it for $99 plus shipping if I remember correctly.

Just my experience. Hope that helps.

Re: Replacement carpet

Looks nice, Heath! Thank you - that's exactly the kind of input I was looking for!

And, thanks for the link, Tim. I've found a bunch of sources, but no comparative info.
