Rock chip in windshield

Saw Travis' post and it jogged my memory.

I don't have a crack, so not sure if the product he used will work. The hole is not all the way through the windshield.

Basically had a rock from a gravel truck hit the windshield. Just had the windshield replaced last spring. GRRRRRR...

What would work to repair the damage? Just a little "hole" not all the way through.

Can I expect good results?

Thanks,
Mike

Re: Rock chip in windshield

i'd imagine it'd work just as well on something like that. Just scrub the hole with some cleaner and a bristley brush, then use the stuff.

Re: Rock chip in windshield

Cool... I'll check it out. Wonder how much it'd cost to have it done professionally... and if the result would justify the price...?

Re: Rock chip in windshield

there's some 'special tool' i've seen... i believe it's a suction cup on the inside & a sealing cup with a syringe type appartus on the outside. i suppose it applies glue/epoxy & sucks any air out at the same time?

i need it myself on my pretty darn new windshield
i think the 'windshield doctor' franchise guys do this job for a reasonable price.

Grrr.... I'd hate that. As for winshield repair, I had my 86' Ranger fixed twice professionally, and it was definitely worth the effort. We have a chain called Cindy Rowe Autoglass around here that does it. They go right to your insurance company. Didn't cost me that I can recal. Well worth doing. It won't make the chip invisible, but it will save the windsheild.

Re: Rock chip in windshield

Mike the product I used is for cracks and chips. For the chips it has a four point suction cup deal to put pressure against the chip as you force in the epoxy.

Re: Rock chip in windshield

Even if you don't bother with the insurance most glass shops only charge about $10 per chip or crack. Had two of them fixed on my semi awhile back and it cost me $22 total.

Planned upgrades are a new and better turbo and larger exhaust pipes than the 21/2s that are already under the rig/ would like a 6 spd tranny but dont know if that is a feasable or smart investment yet.
