Screeching/rattling noise???

I noticed that when I run my truck up to 2000 RPM or so, it makes this weird high pitched screeching/rattling sort of noise...it sort of comes in gradually, then doesn't go away until you drop the RPM's.

What would that be? I can't really even tell.

I had a similar situation one time. Ended up being the vacuum pump. With the belt off, you can definately tell if a bearing is bad by spinning the pulleys by hand. I would look hard at the vacuum pump and alternator.

I'm pretty sure it's not the turbo. I had a turbo go bad on my Thunderbird and it didn't sound like this. Plus I just put new bearings in mine.

Do you have a mechanics stethescope...... if not get a rolled tube like in Christmas wrap and listen all over the engine to isolate it.......or whatever you feel safe to use where wirling blades and belts are moving etc......

Did you try the idler pulley just below the tensioner....... there are 2 thin metal belt guide plates.. one on each side of the pulley.......
