Can someone point me in the right direction for some info on converting at TTB F250 to a solid front axle?
My buddy has a '96 and the front diff is shot (it puked its innards out of the front cover), due to the previous owner's maintenance skills... We were thinking that if he needs a new diff, and balljoints, wheelbearings, rotors, etc... It might be easier to just swap in a completed D60.
Anyway, send responses to my email address, reklund5@comcast.net
as I can't access the forum from work.
a D60 from 87-97 F-350s should work. You'll want to find a single rear wheel (SRW) axle, otherwise, you'll have to remove the dually "adapters". 98(?) and up used 8 on 170mm instead of the standard 8 on 6.5".

Yup, bolt in deal. Pretty easy, just bolt in the spring, plumb in the brakes and you are off to the races, there is a little more to it, but not much. Scotty
You will want to use the F-350 springs, just mainly for height. The 250 springs are arched differently than the 350. Mine was a very simple install and am muck happier with the straight axle.

I may do this in the future too. I was kinda under the impression it involved some custom fabrication. I am getting tired of the TTB. Today I got new tires for my truck and was going to have it aligned, but the tech pointed out that the draglink was bent, I just replaced it in January. So I had to get another and I will be replacing it again tomorrow and taking the truck back to the shop for alignment. Making me wonder if the D60 isn't a better deal..... Scotty mentioned teh brakes...are they the same or different?

No fabrication at all. I just took the trac bar bracket off the F-350 and mounted it on my F-250. The 250 had a bracket similar to the 350's but not the same, but they both use the same bolt holes on the crossmember. Trust me it is a simple conversion. As far as the brakes go, I had the complete brake setup come with the axle so I just hooked my brake lines up to the new axle's calipers.

Don't forget the 4" lift blocks in the rear. The front driveshaft may need to be shortened. The springs from the 250 will give more lift than those from a 350 provided they are not worn. It was by far the best mod to my truck.
