Sorry folks but I have to brag a bit

Had some trouble with my injector return lines leaking for some time and it was really biting into my mileage. I had them fixed a while back just before I got deployed for eight months. Got back and ended up moving off base about 30 miles from work round trip. Changed the fuel filter, fueled up and started to commute. Problem is that my fuel gauge does not work so after two weeks of driving to and fro I started to worry about when I would run out. Especially since my pickup tube is apparently broke off as well. Got to 339 miles on the odometer so I figured I pushed my luck as far as I should so I stopped in to fill it up. Ready for the knight mare ($$$$), then all of a sudden the pump kicks off. I look at the pump and it says 13.6 gallons. I think no way it must have bumped off early so I try to put more in and it clicks off again. I work and struggle to try to be sure this thing is full and finally I see the fuel in the filler tube. IT IS FULL!!! When I am done, 14.88 gallons. So here is the math 339.3 / 14.88 = 22.8 MPG. Stick that in your eye petroleum companies. HA.... 6900lb vehicle, hauls 9 people, can tow 10,000 lbs and still gets 22 miles per gallon. I LOVE MY TRUCK.........

You must have a modified fuel filler neck or something. For our two fords, from when the pump first shuts off I always get almost exactly 5 more gallons in the tank when going slow and fighting the foam.

22MPG doesn't seem to unreasonable though for highway driving.

Very nice. I'm not getting that kind of mileage, but it'd be great if I did.

Did you find the Brotherhood Of Oilburners (BOOB) site? The mods deleted your post() about it and I didn't know what happend after that.

Is the vehicle in your sig. the one in question? If it is, that 5 speed and 3.55 axle ratio prob helps a lot.

I have a 1 ton van, w/ the 3.54 ratio and I got 17-18 last I fueled.

Had that happen once myself...... guys at work were filling the tank to increase my supposed fuel mileage since I was bragging about how much I got. To deflate my ego they started removing some a few weeks later and mileage went for a chitt...... That was over 39 years ago and that story still comes up at reunions......

It is the one in my signature. Been driving her for the last five years. Had the leaky return line for some time just out of laziness as I did not wish to deal with the possibilities of it still leaking after I fix it. Finally bit the bullet and let Ford do it. Never really worried about filling the tank till I got back from the desert and moved. Nice to know she can still perform like that.
