Sound clips of 7.3IDI straight piped?

Just bought some 5" rain caps for a set of straight cut stacks. I might put these on my 7.3IDI or I might put them on another work truck. I wanted to see if any of you guys had a sound clips of straight piped 7.3IDI's ...I searched all over the net for one and never did find any?

Re: Sound clips of 7.3IDI straight piped?

Sounds like under excelleration that it could be really loud like a open header gas motor right? Im guessing because of no turbo its louder?

Correct

i had an IDI turbo, and ran it straight piped, the turbo muffled alot of the sound, IE there is less fuel goin out the tailpipe and it is bein used by the turbo, so the sound it less.

A friend of mine had a 92 non turboed engine, and DANG! sounded just like that clip..

Re: Sound clips of 7.3IDI straight piped?

Those are illegal.Well atleast in texas as far as I know.Got some information from the dps that only a diesel with a turbo can be straight piped and that a naturally aspirated non-turbo diesel is illegal to run on the highway with a straight pipe.

Also another thing to mention about vehicles with turbos. Its also okay to have a gasoline vehicle with a turbocharger to run it straight piped.I was suprised with a gasser being able to do that oh well.

So any turbo can run with a straight pipe.

I fixed my n/a 93 ford with a muffler, but under one condition, the muffler's completely gutted.Had to do some fab'n but got it to work so i still screwed those tree-huggers over.

Re: Sound clips of 7.3IDI straight piped?

I ran a single staight pipe for over a year no problems sounded great
Then I decided to put on dual 2 1/4" Staight pipes with 18' 3 1/2" Slash Cut tips all I can say is wow one pass by the Ford Stealership(setting off atleast 2 maybe 3)car alarms off I had to turn around and put some mufflers on
Now with this cummins my truck sound really quiet even with a straight pipe

Re: Sound clips of 7.3IDI straight piped?

I have mine true dualled with mufflers but no tips. Everyone tells me it sounds like a big block when I stand on it. Not quite as loud as that sound clip but close.
