Speedometer calibaration????

I have seen post before on calibaration but i cannofind any that have links to certain pages that tell you how to do it ur self and not have to take it to the dealer. because the dealer wants $104 to do it and i was hoping i could get some instructions and do it myself. i went from stock 235/75R16 to 285/75R16 which they look really nice.

thanks

Re: Speedometer calibaration????

heck this site out, Steve Baz , i think its on there, i'm also running 285s but haven't recalibrated the speedo, i just figured 6% change it miles. I think you can only recalibrated like 3 times and then you have to buy something.

Re: Speedometer calibaration????

Since you have the 5 speed tranny, what you do is replace the speedo drive gear whihc is in the side of the transmission. You have to take the old one out and count the teeth, then figure the new number of teeth based on % change in speed. The new gear is like $20 I think.

Re: Speedometer calibaration????

My 94 has a speed sensor on the rear diff, I just put a 5 speed from an 89 in it and there was no spot for a speedo cable, I think mine has to be changed by imputing the formula into the digital odometer, would his 93 be any different? What years/transmissions used a cable and gear going to the trans?
