Is this a stupid Idea?

I'm thinking about making my own exhaust brake. I've seen the butterfly valves that bolt to gasoline engine manifolds that are temp operated, to help the engine warm up, if I could find a pair of those big enough to work on my manifolds, and remove the temp control coil spring and hook them up to solonoids, would that work, or am I threatening to destroy my engine, or waste a bunch of time for no benefit?

No, the "heat riser" valve closes one exhaust pipe off, forcing higher exhaust flow through the intake manifold and warming it up faster.

Maybe if you could get one of them big enough, and install in the exhaust after the Y-pipe...
