Thanks to you guys, I finally did it!!

It has only taken two years (nobody said I was supposed to be fast) but I finally have my explorer overhead console installed. I'm sorry I have no fabrication pictures (because I was working like the boss was over my shoulder and the deadline was 5 minutes ago!!) but will put that on the priority list for the center console I will soon be starting.

This is my first attempt at pictures...copy and paste please, I will figure out the blue link thing later.

The SEM color was about one shade darker than the trim on the truck, but looks good though. Yes it took awhile to trim down the edges to get it to lay flat against the headliner. Oh, sound proofed too while I had the headliner down. There was nothing to keep all that metal from singing going down the road. Not anymore!! Oh, the headliner, couldn't get it out unless I removed a window, as in rear window. Working solo I just rotated it so I could get to it. Followed the directions on all those Explorer forums as to wiring and stuff. And yes, those are Shane Linse's excellent quality Carlington switches that will control driving, fog, and rotating lights.

I also made a PlayDough mold (please stop laughing) of the area behind the pillar trim. I will attempt to mill up some brackets so we can either make our own grab handles or use ones off the newer trucks. When I do it I will post dimensions so if you want to make some you can find a guy with a mill, or grab a file.

My wife REALLY needs grab handles to get into the truck.

Again, I thank all of you who have given my the motivation to finally get the courage up and make something for my truck. It felt really good and I am rolling full speed ahead on my center console which will have more switches for electrical goodies and also controls for airbags all around. Again, wouldn't have even thought about this stuff if you guys hadn't already tried it and shown me and everyone else that we can all do this stuff, some will just need a little more time than others!! I am just mad at myself that I put it off so long. THIS IS FUN STUFF!!!

Bob

Looks great I may do the same thing, there is just no dash space for acc switches in my 91. Also the map/dome lite must be very nice.
