Theft prevention?

I will be on a trip and staying overnight in a motel (in Del Rio) near the Mexican border. Are diesel pickups still a hot theft prospect? Any ideas for a theft deterrent as a cable lock from the clutch pedal to the steering wheel or unplugging the IP solenoid?
Thanks TomC

Re: Theft prevention?

rig up a hidden switch for the ip--the rest is a joke--no current to ip--no start--no run---even if they try to jump the ignition switch---

Re: Theft prevention?

Park head in with your front wheels turned all the way to the right. This will make it the hardest to steal by towing (quite popular these days since it looks "legitimate"). Wheels turned to the right because it would force a tow truck to ride the center line to keep the towed vehicle on the road.

Pulling the wire to the FSS would stop the truck from being driven away if someone forced the ignition.

Re: Theft prevention?

ive got lots of family in del rio, and hell my family comes from Bracketville, about 20 miles east. lately i have not heard about auto thefts being as big of a problem as usual and have not heard much about diesels either. however, if you want to go all out on it...just like Mr_Roboto says, turn your wheels all the way to the right and just for kicks disconnect your battery cabbles. Another unique tip i saw in Off-Road Magazine was get a very Big and long padlock and lock all the pedals in between them, then they have to push the gas and brakes everytime they hit the clutch.(sounds dumb i know, but looked like a good idea)

last but not least and also a personal experience, i use to leave my 94 f150 with a tank of gas empty and would set that tank on before i shut it off. it used to be able to start without a key. anyways, good luck
